Keynote Address – President, ACELP Meher Hasan

Assalam-o-Alaikum and good morning.

“I am Meher Hasan, President of the Association for Children with Emotional and Learning Problems, known as ACELP. It is a pleasure to join you for the Mind the Screen symposium. Since 1974, ACELP has been a support for children who face physical and mental health challenges like Autism, Cerebral Palsy, and Down Syndrome. Our mission has always been towards an effort that no child is left  without proper care and assessment.

“We provide a holistic environment through specialised schooling and therapies, ensuring that every child receives the necessary support from the family as well as the community and professionals. In our current landscape, inclusivity is expected, but without a practical training, it remains an empty slogan. We have initiated specific programs to move toward that goal.

“For us, community readiness to accept and support diversity is essential, and that journey must begin at the family level. Our approach gives priority to family education as a fundamental step toward achieving true inclusion.

“I encourage all of you, mental health colleagues, educators, youth, and media professionals to keep inclusivity in our society at the forefront. Let us work together keeping in mind that technology serves as a bridge, rather than a barrier. I want to thank the organisers for this opportunity to share our vision. I wish you all a productive symposium and look forward to the insights that will help us better support the mental health of our youth. Thank you.”

The ACELP delegation included Dr Farooq Anwer, Dr Nazia Huzaifa, Sadia Asif and CEO ACELP, Talib Haider.

The team connected with other professionals, educators, and young people at the event. Together, they discussed ways to improve mental health support systems and build more inclusive communities.
